LATER – Stephen King

The latest from King, his third hard case crime novel though I didn’t enjoy The Colorado Kid and am yet to read Joyland.

Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood but he is no ordinary child. Born with a special ability which his Mum Tia urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can and learn what no one else can learn but the cost of using his ability is higher than Jamie can ever imagine.

Sounds Good, right? For a while this is a Great read but then comes the King Multiverse and the book goes rapidly downhill. It’s still a decent(ish) read if only to find out about Jamie’s Father and what happens to his Mum’s on off lesbian lover NYPD Liz Cutter but once the links start arriving it becomes less enthralling as a story. Overall, Disappointing Mr King

The Night Train – Sharon Bolton

OUT TODAY! 99p on kindle

18th March 2021

Her first anthology and of course I’ve already read it!!

One word, Brilliant!!

Especially the first few stories that are linked to her novel The Craftsman, I’ve got an urge to re-read that book now but all these short stories (all linked to some of her other books) are really good and this is a must read for any fan of Sharon Bolton 😎👍🏻

Dead Scared – Sharon Bolton

My favourite female author! I’ve read all of her books but this was the very first, the one that got me hooked on her writing, well overdue a re-read!

This book is still Superb! There is no way I can recommend it enough (this should be a movie or tv series) this is one book that you all have to read then stand by as you get the need for more of Sharon Bolton‘s work just like I did. Awesome Author!

Sacrifice – Hannah Winter

I love European Crime Fiction & this debut novel is yet another helping.

“Criminal Psychologist Lena Peters is asked to consult on a spate of gruesome murders that the Berlin Police are struggling to solve. Young women are being abducted, tortured and multilated. But Lena knows what makes killers tick, she also knows all about obsession and she soon comes to the attention of a Sadistic Killer whose deadly mission has only just begun!”

This is how every thriller should be written. Short, Sharp and straight to the point. No over characterisation, no over descriptive tediousness but still enough to know the characters and to get immersed in the story. The only frustration with this book is that it ends on a cliff hanger so I’m hoping she’s soon finished with the next book!

The Longest Night – J N Williamson

The Ladies of the evening will never see the dawn! More than fifty years ago, the women died, victims of a crazed killer but even in death they found no rest for night after night they die again, now the horror grows as death reaches out to claim new victims fresh blood.

Another horror author I know very little about but one that I probably won’t try again! His writing style is too mismatched for my liking, sometimes confusing and I’ve put this book down many times before finishing it. Sorry Mr W but this seemed like The Longest Week!

The Sundown Motel – Simone St James

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long while now. There have been so many good reviews of it and I love a good Motel story so this is very high up on my TBR…

“Carly Kirk has never been able to let go of the story of her aunt Viv Delaney who mysteriously disappeared from the Motel over 30 years before. She decides to visit the Motel, quickly learning that nothing has changed in those 30 odd years but she soon finds herself ensnared in the same mysteries that claimed her Aunt”

August 2023, Finally got around to starting this, Halfway through and so far it’s bloody awesome!

Home Sick – Marc Raabe

As I loved his first two books, CUT & The SHOCK, I just had to get hold of his next one.

“When Jesse’s ex wife is murdered & his daughter abducted his life spirals out of control. At the scene of the crime was a message left for him: ‘You Don’t Deserve Her’

What does the message mean? Where is his daughter? Soon Jesse realises that the answers lie in his past. A past he’s so desperate to escape and secrets he’s struggling to remember”

A Great read except for the confusion!! Without giving away any spoilers I think the author twisted the twist so much that it totally contradicts! I’m still trying to make it make sense!!
