The Sanatorium – Sarah Pearse

Wow! This sounds so Good! I’ve just gotta get into this ASAP

And I did! I’ve just finished it. Yes it’s pretty good, I’m a fan of any Asylum/Hotel Horror so to have both in one book was a bonus. On leave from her police job, Elin and her bf Will visit the newly opened Swiss Hotel where her former friend Laure (now engaged to her estranged brother) works and has invited them over for a stay. But when people start disappearing and bodies begin turning up Elin reverts back to cop mode. Can she discover the truth before everyone is dead?

The Chain – Adrian McKinty

Picked this up from the Skip’s recycle shop for 50p!! Heard a lot about it, some good some bad so I thought it’d be worth a go so let’s join it…

“Your phone rings, a stranger has kidnapped your child, to free them you must abduct someone else’s child, your child will be released when your victim’s parents kidnap another child. If this chain is broken your child dies”

Yeah this was Ok. More original than most recent thrillers and though it’s pretty predictable it’s still a decent read and one I’d probably recommend.

The Watcher Girl – Minka Kent

My recent Free read from Amazon kindle is a thriller about Grace, a girl who, years later, returns to check on the man she walked away from only to find he’s married to a lookalike called Campbell and they’ve a daughter named Grace so clearly he’s never gotten over her.

She stays to keep an eye on him and his family but all doesn’t go as planned. She begins thinking that her ex has become an abusive husband so she stays to help his wife but she soon starts feeling that someone is watching her too!

A pretty average thriller, readable but not too enjoyable. So similar to hundreds of others presumably because authors are now running out of ideas!

Red Dragon – Thomas Harris

It’s about time I got started on his Lecter Quadrilogy! Starting off with this, the novel that created Hannibal the Cannibal, let the feast begin!

This is Very Good. As is common with movie or Tv adaptation the movie doesn’t do the book justice but if you haven’t seen the movie I’d advise to read the book first.

This is very well written with an enthralling storyline that keeps the reader attentive. One of those books that you can’t wait to finish but are sorry to have it end! Though Lecter doesn’t appear often in this he’s still got a memorable presence, second only to The Tooth Fairy!

If you love a good serial killer thriller you should check out this Quadrilogy.

Final Cut – S J Watson

The latest thriller from the author of Before I go to Sleep sees a young filmmaker (Alex) visit Blackwood Bay to film her latest documovie but with a secret ulterior motive, to attempt to uncover secrets about the disappearance/death of young girls which the townspeople don’t like to talk about…

This is Pretty Good. It would make a great movie or TV series. Though it’s a little predictable and the sub storyline is one that’s been done many times before this is still worth reading 😎👍🏻

Cold Storage – David Koepp

This was a great find at a local charity site (only 75p too!) One that I’d been looking to get!!

From the screenwriter of Jurassic Park: “They thought it was contained… They were wrong!” After decades underground in a forgotten sub basement, a highly mutative organism capable of extinction level destruction has found its way out”

Yeah, this is an okay read…

The characterisation outweighs the actual story (which in one character case is good) and the ending is pretty instant and anti climatic but it’s far from crap and it’s what I’d call “A Perfect Timefiller” for when you’re stuck between books thinking what to read next.

The Turn of The Key – Ruth Ware

Best Buy of the day at 75p!!

Well… Yes… This did sound good. A woman takes on a nanny job for all the wrong reasons and, though she loves the job it’s not perfect, she’s not perfect and one of the children in her care ends up dead!!

This is a Very Good book, it would’ve been a Great book had it not been for the unexpected ending, it let the whole book down but I’m still interested in reading more from this author.
