Last House on Needless Street – Catriona Ward

This is the story of a murderer. A Stolen Child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted. He lives with his young daughter Lauren and his cat Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street. An unspeakable secret binds the family together and when a new neighbour moves in next door the truth may destroy them all. There’s something buried in the dark forest at the end of Needless Street… But it’s not what you think…

Well… What I think is this… I’ve never had so many questions after reading a book!!

Without going into detail as it would be total spoilers, why are there so many things left unanswered in this book? I’ve read books that finish with an unanswered question or that finish on an open ending but this one??!!!😡😡

I’m so bloody annoyed right now!

Very Frustrating!!

Shuggie Bain – Douglas Stuart

A coming of age story about growing up in recession hit Britain. Shuggie lives with his older sister and brother and their alcoholic mother in Glasgow, doing his best in life as his mother falls apart around them. Laughs, heartbreak and tragedy combine to bring you this true life tale of which most kids of that generation will associate with.

Really enjoyed this 😷😎👍🏻

The Burning Girls – CJ Tudor

“500 years ago eight martyrs burned…”

“30 years ago two teenagers vanished…”

“Two months ago a local vicar died mysteriously…”

WELCOME TO CHAPEL CROFT!

Recently widowed and full of guilt after a recent scandal Reverend Brooks gets relocated from Nottingham to a new parish in Sussex greatly upsetting her teenage daughter Flo but they arrive at a village full of ghosts and local legends and are soon very much involved.

This is Bloody Good. Definitely her best yet!

Deadfall Hotel – Steve Rasnic Tem

“This is the hotel where our nightmares go…”

“This makes The Shining’s Overlook Hotel look like Butlins!”

“Eerie. Disturbing yet strangely touching. You’ll check in but you may never check out!”

I love a good hotel horror story and how could I possibly pass this one up?!

I wish that I had given this one a miss, it’s absolutely dire! Tedious?? Took me over a month to finish it Twas that bloody tedious! Bugger all happens, storyline is all over the place and the characters are instantaneously boring. I’m not sure who gave the “Good reviews” that this book got but I’d suspect they were highly dosed up on something when they did!!

UTTER CRAP!! 🤬🤬

Evil Never Dies – S M Hardy

The second book in the Dark Devon Mysteries and the sequel to The “Evil Within”

Spiritualist Jed Cummings has been contacted by an old friend called Simon Pomeroy, requesting his help in finding out what happened to his recently murdered brother. But when Jed and his wife Emma arrive at Simon’s impressive mansion, strange happenings occur and they discover dark family secrets that threaten to destroy anyone and everyone involved including themselves.

This is Very Good. Not as good as it’s prequel due to the supernatural element lacking and missing certain characters but it’s still a decent read😎👍🏻

Hunting Evil – Chris Carter

This is the sequel to his novel “An Evil Mind” the only sequel he has written to date but it’s villain, Lucian Folter is so evil that he probably deserved another run out! It’s probably best if you read An Evil Mind first but it’s not imperative.

This is Very Good. Similar to its prequel An Evil Mind, which is also Very Good, this delves further into the psychological games Robert Hunter has to deal with from his nemesis Lucien Folter. Never knowing what to expect next or from whom, the reader is kept fully engrossed throughout and as with most of Chris Carter’s work that I’ve read it’s so bloody addictive. If you haven’t read any of his work yet, these would be a great place to start.

Breathe – Dominick Donald

A Huge DNF! This was one of those “Impulse cover buys” that so often turn up in charity shops. I’d not heard of it or of the author but was intrigued enough to read it’s synopsis and pay the quid.

Set in 1950’s London not long after the death of King George V, a killer is striking through the smoggy streets of London and rookie cop Dick Bourton has been tasked with the investigation.

Pretty Decent

The Dry – Jane Harper

Who really killed the Hadlers!

Officer Aaron Falk returns to his hometown for the funeral of his childhood best friend Luke Hadler but is unwillingly drawn into the investigation. As questions mount and suspicion spreads through the town, Aaron is forced to confront the community that rejected him over twenty years earlier and as he probes deeper into the Hadler killings, secrets from his past bubble to the surface as he questions the truth of his friend’s crime.

Very Good this. I was so enthralled I got through it in just over 24 hours and watched the movie adaptation as I was finishing the book 😷😎👍🏻

A Winter Haunting – Dan Simmons

The sequel to his hit novel Summer of Night, this is a must read if U liked its predecessor. Dale Stewart, now a novelist in his early 50’s, returns to Elm Haven mainly to work on his writing but also to forget about his career and his marriage, both of which he sabotaged and rents his old friends recently vacated farmhouse for the duration of his stay in Elm Haven but Dale is not alone here.

Yeah… this is Ok, not great but still worth reading if you enjoyed Summer of Night. It just wasn’t as I’d expected though, I’ll give no spoilers, it did have clear links to its predecessor but it needed more to make it the epic sequel it should’ve been.
