The Hand of the Devil – Dean Vincent Carter

This was a pure “Title Buy” I didn’t even read the synopsis coz it was only 10p in a local charity shop but on reading more about it, it appears to be a YA Horror which I’m not a big fan of but for such a bargain I’m giving this one a bash.

I’d say this is definitely a YA Horror but, that being so, it’s still pretty good, we’ll worth 10p! Journalist Ashley Reeves receives a mysterious letter from a person called Mather, a person unknown to him but whom tells Reeves of a story he has for him about the Legendary Ganges Red, a queen size mosquito thought only to be nothing but a myth but Mather says he has this thing in his possession and Reeves feels that he must go and check out his story unaware of the danger that he’s putting himself into.

Firestarter – Stephen King

I’d started reading this a few years ago but somehow managed to lose the book before I’d finished it but luckily, thanks to a recent necessary (though Very Inconvenient and Stressful) sort out, I’ve discovered another copy that I had so I’m getting back to it albeit from the start again!!

Tis Very Good and as most King books are, it’s much better than it’s movie adaptation and keeps you engrossed, difficult to put it down til it’s finished.

After the brutal murder of her mother, Charlie McGee and her father Andy are on the run from a company known as The Shop who are interested in the unique power that Charlie possesses, wanting to capture her, killing her father along the way if necessary and perform unregulated testing in her which neither she nor her father wants.

The Christmas Killer – Alex Pine

“As the snow begins to fall, the body count begins to climb…”

DI James Walker is ready for a quiet family Christmas in the sleepy village of Kirkby Abbey but when he opens an early Christmas present that was left on his doorstep he soon realises it is no gift. Inside is a gruesome surprise and a promise – twelve days, twelve murders – not long after, the first body is found, half frozen in the snow. As the blizzards descend, panic spreads through the remote village as there’s a killer amongst them and with eleven more victims to go, anyone could be next. Can James stop the killer before they strike again?

This is pretty good, very enjoyable and as it says on the tin it had me guessing right til the end. Pretty sure there is a sequel though it’s title evades me right now but I’ll definitely be checking that one out though if you’ve read The Christmas Killer by Jim Gallows you’ll probably be disappointed with the perpetrator in this Christmas Killer!

Pretty Good👍🏻

Midnight Mass (Netflix)

What a Load of ABSOLUTE SHITE!!!!

How this got the good reviews it did, more to the point how it got good reviews AT ALL is beyond my understanding! I’m Flabbergasted.

It’s so bloody tedious. Very little happens if it happens at all, in every episode. The overall storyline is shit and even some of the actors appearing in it look totally disinterested knowing how crap the series is.

I RECOMMEND THIS TO NOBODY UNLESS YOU SUFFER SEVERE INSOMNIA FOR WHICH THIS TRIPE WOULD BE AN INSTANT CURE!

Watchers – Dean Koontz

Haven’t read a Koontz book in a while, some of his are pretty bad but I’ve heard good things about this one so I’m gonna give it a go…

Well, I’m finally done with this one and I’ve gotta say that it’s definitely much longer than it needs to be, there is so much unnecessary dialogue irrelevant or repetitive to the story. I don’t know why some authors insist on this but it’s so bloody annoying!! It’s a decent little storyline and the characters were pretty likeable but the dragging out and stretching of it made it less enjoyable and that was why it took me longer than usual to finish it.

The Pact – Sharon Bolton

Finally, the latest book from my favourite female author has been released on paperback and is available in the shops (14/10/21) I love all her work, her Lacey Flint series is extremely good and have been anticipating this one for some months so here goes 😷😎👍🏻

“Six talented friends are looking forward to the brightest of futures until a daredevil game goes horribly wrong and a woman and her two children are killed. 18 year old Megan makes a pact with her friends, she’ll take the blame leaving the other five free to get on with their lives. In return, each of them agrees to a ‘favour’ payable on Megan’s release from prison. Twenty years later Megan is free, it’s payback time”

Well… A little Annoyed… but only with the ending! After such a thrilling, engrossing and a “WTF is going on” trip through the book, the ending is, in polite terms, Fcukin Anti Climatic! The tension throughout most of the book, basically from the accident onwards, is pretty high and when you get to the end it’s like, “Really? That’s it?!!” This is much better than her last book The Split (very poor compared to her usual high standard) but its ending greatly disappoints.

The Nurse – J A Corrigan

Is she a heartless killer or an innocent victim?

When you hear her story will you believe her?

“Rose Marlowe is a hard working nurse, a loving wife and a merciless killer. Or so she says. Despite her confession, it is hard to believe that this beautiful, kind woman could have killed her vulnerable patient in cold blood. Down on his luck journalist Theo Hazel is convinced there’s more to what happened and decides to visit Rose in prison to get her story. With each visit he becomes sure that Rose is hiding the truth but is he trying to free an innocent victim or falling prey to a calculating murderer?”

Yes. This is Really Good. Twists and turns in the storyline keep you guessing throughout and you’re never really sure until the very end.

Highly Recommended 😷😎👍🏻

Very Intriguing!!

Last House on Needless Street – Catriona Ward

This is the story of a murderer. A Stolen Child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted. He lives with his young daughter Lauren and his cat Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street. An unspeakable secret binds the family together and when a new neighbour moves in next door the truth may destroy them all. There’s something buried in the dark forest at the end of Needless Street… But it’s not what you think…

Well… What I think is this… I’ve never had so many questions after reading a book!!

Without going into detail as it would be total spoilers, why are there so many things left unanswered in this book? I’ve read books that finish with an unanswered question or that finish on an open ending but this one??!!!😡😡

I’m so bloody annoyed right now!

Very Frustrating!!
