Little Black Lies – Sharon Bolton

I love this author and Any book of hers is a Must Read for me. Caitlin and Rachel, two friends, inseparable friends whom trusted each other complicity until one day, Ned and Kit, Caitlin’s two boys were killed by Rachel (so she believes) and it’s only so long before revenge becomes irresistible so, with no reason to go on living, will Caitlin turn her darkest thoughts into deeds?!!

Not up to her usual standard IMO though that is pretty high but still a very enthralling read which keeps you guessing right up to the “very end” Personally prefer her Lacey Flint series of which “The Dark” is now out but this is still a decent standalone thriller 😷😎👍🏻

“Creeps under your skin”

The Book of Accidents – Chuck Wendig

When you see the statement “Move over Stephen King, here is the new voice of modern horror” it’s bound to peak your interest, especially if, like me, you’re one of King’s many Constant Readers. Any statement like that requires full justification and there’s only one way that can happen so here I am with a copy of this book where I’ll soon be going in search of that “Justification” 😷😎👍🏻

Yeah, thought this was okay but I can understand why some people didn’t like it, ‘tis one you need to fully focus on as so much is happening but I enjoyed it. A little disappointed with the ending, it could’ve been better IMO but overall it’s definitely a 8/9 outta 10. Any horror fan should read this👍🏻

The Watchers – A M Shine

“You can’t see them but they can see you! This forest doesn’t appear on any map. Dark on the brightest day, it’s ancient secrets hidden from the sun this is no place to linger, especially after dark. Mina is taking the country roads to Connemara, an ever narrowing maze across moor and bog, the lights fade on a dreary December day as her car engine stutters and dies. Outside, from a nearby treeline she hears a scream, No, not a scream it’s an otherworldly shriek. Mina knows better than to get out of the car… doesn’t she?”

A Dark, Claustrophobic Horror!

The Ward – S L Grey

Prepare to wake into a nightmare! Celerity Photographer Farrell did exactly that. His last memory is a fight with his fashion model girlfriend but now he’s woken up in ‘No Hope’ hospital, alone with needle marks criss crossing his arm and a sinister nurse regularly tampering with his drip… and he’s woken up blind. Farrell persuades another patient, Lisa, a plastic surgery addict, to help him escape but the hospital’s dimly lit corridors only take them deeper underground where dead eye nurses and doped up orderlies staff the Modification Ward. Is there any escape?

This is Pretty Good. Made me think of the movie Hostel with its grotesque body horror and this Could’ve been even better IMO if the ending wasn’t so poor but I’ve now found out that this is part of a trilogy (Sods Law this is the middle one of that!) so I’m now interested in checking out the other two in this series “The Mall” & “The New Girl” 😷😎👍🏻

Bloody Intriguing!

Dalton Highway – Freddie Ahlin

Not gonna lie. This book was only £2 free postage from Amazon so I checked it out and liked the sound of this road trip into the unknown so here I am reading it (halfway through already as it’s under 200 pages) and, as the sub-title suggests…. Some roads are better left untravelled…

This was Okay. Just Okay. Nowt special. Too much repetitiveness went on in the forest for me, very little mention of the highway and though it was quite enjoyable it left many unanswered questions which is a dislike of mine so not one that I’d recommend but glad I only paid £2.12!

Falling – T J Newman

This is a highly recommended debut novel, “Non-stop, Amazing, Intense Suspense, Perfect Thriller” so maybe it’s worth a go… Let’s see…

“You’ve just boarded a flight to New York… There are 143 other people aboard… What you don’t know is that thirty minutes before the flight, your pilot’s family was kidnapped. For his family to live… Everyone on the plane must die. The only way his family will survive is if the pilot follows orders and crashes the plane!”

Tbh, this was pretty good. If you like the movie Speed you’ll enjoy this though it is pretty much very predictable, it still makes you feel like you’re amongst the panicked passengers on the plane! Not a bad debut at all👍🏻

“Speed on a plane!”

The Family – Louise Jenson

Picked this one up at a local thrift store in a “Three for £1” deal. Thought it sounded ok so here goes… and it is Very Good with Plenty of twists to keep you engrossed.

“After the sudden death of her husband Gavan, Laura is grieving, struggling to cope both emotionally and financially, deeply worried for her 17 year old daughter Tilly. Help is offered by a local community called Oak Leaf Organics whom offer them both a new home. But when sinister things begin to happen, one of the community dies in suspicious circumstances, Laura wants to leave but Tilly, enthralled by the charismatic leader Alex, refuses to go. Desperately searching for a way to save her daughter, Laura uncovers a horrifying secret but Alex and his “family” aren’t the only ones with something to hide”

Addictive Thriller??!

Blind Spot – Paula Hawkins

Part of the Reading Agency’s Quick Reads collection and well worth a whole one hundred new pence and at just over 100 pages it was a very quick but enjoyable read.

“How can you say things like that? How can you be so blind? But they did and they were but, as they find out some years later it was to their peril. Edie, Jake and Ryan have been friends since they were kids, the bonds between them unbreakable so when Jake is murdered and Ryan is arrested Edie’s life is shattered and now she is alone, living in the remote house that she shared with Jake, the past is about to catch up with her.

Very Intriguing!

A Slow Fire Burning – Paula Hawkins

The latest from The Girl on the Train author asks “What is wrong with you? as Laura, Miriam and Carla have their boring lives turned upside down, becoming different people but are they innocent or guilty? Are they damaged? If so, are they damaged enough to kill? Trust Nobody!”

This is Okay. Probably better than her previous outing “Into the Water” but nowhere as good as that girl on the public transport, not sure if she’ll ever live up to that one! This, as the title so elegantly tells us, is a bit of a slow burner and took me a few sittings to get into but once I did it burnt a lot quicker and “needed” finishing. Would I recommend it? Probably… but only halfway down your TBR pile.

Very Intriguing!

Twelve Secrets – Robert Gold

“A small town. A shocking crime”

Those few words usually get my attention, it was no different this time and I was so glad as this is bloody awesome! A Superb debut.

“Ben Harper’s big brother Nick was murdered. It was a crime that shocked the nation and catapulted their hometown of Hadley into the spotlight. Years later his mother seemingly and totally unexpectedly took her own life. Now, twenty years in from Nick’s murder, Ben is a leading investigative journalist and settled back in Haddley but a fresh murder case shines new light on his brother’s murder and his mother’s supposed suicide. Ben starts to discover that, in Haddley, no-one is as they seem as suspicion is thrown on those closest to him and someone will do anything to keep the truth buried”
