Days of Utter Dread – Graham Masterton

An anthology of horror stories including The Red Butcher and Stranglehold. This was a title I discovered on kindle in my search for “Horror” I’ve read one novel of his “House of a hundred whispers” which I found a little repetitive and tedious with not that great of a storyline but am hoping his shorter horror is more enjoyable😎👍🏻

Ok, I’ve finished this now and, Yes, this is definitely better than the novel of his that I read, very enjoyable horror shorts, some better than others but not one bad one IMO. This is Definitely a go-to for any horror fan👍🏻

The Sailor who fell from Grace with the sea – Mishima

This book is part of a “Vintage Classics” collection that was recommended to me by my son as I’d recently gotten interested in the work of Japanese authors. This is the first work of Mishima that I’ve obtained a copy of (borrowed from my son) and soon got through this novella (131 pages) which is IMO a coming of age story but it was still pretty good even though it’s so short and I am now keen to read more of these novels

The Gunslinger, The Dark Tower Book One – Stephen King

Although I’ve already read the first six books in The Dark Tower series, I found the recent publications of Books 1 and 2 in a local re-cycle shop, both in Very Good condition too and was strongly attracted by the beam to read these again though I’ll probably only re-read Books 1,2&3 coz Book 4 wasn’t that great (Unnecessary too IMO) and Book 5 was quite a recent read anyway. As for Book 6, well… that was crap! Once I’ve re-read Books 1,2&3 I’ll then get onto Book 7, The Dark Tower, the only one I’ve not read yet so “Come palaver on this quest with me sai Roland, we have a man in black to pursue…!”

Fear Street (The Beginning) R.L. Stine

After recently watching, and enjoying the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix then finding this book in a local thrift shop Twas a No Brainer really!

This book comprises four different stories, “The New Girl” “The Surprise Party” “The Overnight” & “Missing” all of which involve the infamous Fear Street.

I read the first story “The New Girl” and was very disappointed. This isn’t YA horror it’s much lighter than that, Primary school horror IMO! Won’t be wasting any more time reading any more, it went straight into the thrift store bag.

YA Crap!!

Strangers – Dean Koontz

I love Motel Horror and this sounds SO Good.

Strangers, all with differing lifestyles whom have nothing in common spend one hot summer night at the Tranquility Motel. It’s a night filled with unending terror, a night when an awesome power strips then of their memories. Now, the evil is creeping back into their minds. Slowly, tauntingly, maddeningly they are recalling the unspeakable events of that fateful moonlit evening and as the vision of evil grows clearer, the guests of the Tranquility Motel seek each other out. Some of them will not live to face the power head on, but some will in a terror-packed climax unlike anything ever experienced before”

Currently, almost 100 pages in. So far it’s just a detailed meeting of each of the five main characters and haven’t yet gotten to the Tranquility Motel…

“Unique & Spellbinding”

Heathen & Nemesis – Shaun Hutson Omnibus

After recently reading and enjoying my first Hutson book I thought I’d add this £3 Bargain to my collection, another for my Halloween TBR!

HEATHEN: “Donna Ward wants answers to the questions surrounding her husband’s death but the more she learns, the closer she moves to danger. The Sons of Midnight, the people who have killed before and will do so again if anybody gets too close” IMO this is Crime Horror at its best though this author is renowned for Horror its far from that alone but I’d still recommend this to any fan of Horror or Crime, it’s Very Good👍🏻

NEMESIS: “Sue & John Hackett’s daughter has been brutally murdered and, to try and salvage their lives they retreat to the small town of Hinkston. But the peace in Hinkston is being torn apart by a series of horrific murders and the town holds a fateful fifty year old secret that was supposed to have died during the war… But it didn’t” I’ll be getting onto this soon…

The Rats Trilogy – James Herbert

The Perfect Halloween read??!!!

Having already read The Rats, Lair was next up.

It was nowhere near as good as it’s prequel but it’s still pretty decent. Also, like it’s predecessor (300pages) it’s another short one and it’s not long til Domain becomes the next port of call as it is now for me 🐀🐀🐀

Ok. Domain is definitely the longest (475 pages) of the trilogy and it’s also the worst. The story revolves around a nuclear fall out and the survival antics of a group of survivors but the rats are hardly mentioned, big mistake making it part of The Rats trilogy IMO and wouldn’t have bothered reading it had it been a standalone novel so that’s probably why it got included!!
