The Old Religion – Martyn Waites

“Sometimes… helping a stranger is the Last thing you should do…”

This was a definite Cover Buy, one of those that draws you into its synopsis and eventual purchase. I’ve recently found out that this author has also had success writing as an alias though I won’t reveal her name in case you don’t know or don’t want to know but I can say that this particular book is really good. I loved it!!

Ex-undercover cop Tom Killgannon is running from his past, seeking refuge in the quiet Cornish village of St.Petroc and hoping that the Witness Protection Programme keeps him safe. Lila, a 17 year old girl also on the run breaks into Tom’s secluded house, steals his coat (wallet and secret identity included) but Lila is in danger too. To keep his identity secret, Tom must find Lila which risks nor only giving away his location to those he’s hiding from but also becoming a target to whoever is hunting Lila.

Chilling, Pagan Horror!

Trick or Treat – Jackson Sharp

I found this book in a local bargain store. I’ve never heard of this author though any book that offers to “Meet the Halloween Killer” will usually get my attention as does his other book “The Twelve Deaths of Christmas” Gonna get started on this very soon…

Finished!! Really enjoyed this. It’s a fast paced, serial killer thriller with a religious twist. “As Halloween approaches, the mutilated body of a young woman is found in a remote field, posed to resemble a piece of ancient religious art. DI Lauren Rose is sent to investigate but soon after another body is found, also displayed in a chillingly similar fashion, clearly a definite link between the two murders and as panic spreads across Oxford, DI Rose must stop a killer who harbours a dark and dangerous obsession”

The Halloween Killer!

The People Next Door – Christopher Ransom

Not an author I’d heard much about til recently and not one that I’d read owt of either but I do own The Birthing House and this one (both very cheap in local thrift stores) so I thought Twas about time I gave this bloke a try, starting with this “terrifying” neighbourly thriller.

“You will never, ever guess their secret…!”

I now know why there were so many bad reviews of this book! Very little gets explained. “Mick & Amy Nash and their two children Kyle & Briela suddenly have a suspicious arrival in a neighbouring property, one that still always seems to be empty but when their problems begin to get resolved, their financial woes amongst them, without their knowledge and bodies begin appearing, Mick Nash fears for the safety of his family” This one sure does drag on, it’s pretty addictive in parts but is also very frustrating when the answers you’re expecting aren’t forthcoming.

Unforgettable Horror? Not quite!

Psycho 2 – Robert Bloch

Currently enjoying a re-read of this Classic👍🏻

This series, books and movies are So Good, Hitchcock’s Psycho is my favourite movie and Robert Bloch never got the credit he deserved for the books. This is very different from the movie Psycho 2 but, IMO Anyway, the book has a better storyline which should’ve been adhered to much more in the movie adaptation though both are Very Good. It would definitely be a crime to miss out on these Beauties, these fictional Classics so, if you haven’t already, it’s time to make your way to the Bates Motel, check in and relax, have a shower… Norman will be watching that you do!

Superb! Awesome! A Classic!

Kurtain Motel (Sins 1-3) – A I Nasser

One time, when flicking through “Horror” on Amazon kindle I was given this as a suggested read “Supernatural” and “Motel” being key words in my search and as it was free to read (still is) it would’ve been silly not to give it a bash, so I did. I’ve recently finished the series and can easily say that I was hooked from very early on…

“Patrick Lahm is an author down on his luck. On his way to a book signing he runs out of petrol just as he gets caught in a storm and hitches a ride to the nearest motel, the Kurtain Motel, where he’s forced to stay the night. He soon finds out that something evil is at work there, it creeps into the deepest, darkest corners of your mind and doesn’t let go. Can Patrick survive what will be the longest night of his life as, at the Kurtain Motel, all tour nightmares come true.

Supernatural Horror!

The Dark Room – Minette Walters

After finding out that “The Sculptress” Tv series starring Pauline Quirke (which is very good) was based on a book by Minette Walters, it got me looking into what other work she’s done as I’d never heard of her before and luckily I found this omnibus of hers in a local thrift shop, two stories of hers “The Darkroom” & “The Scolds Bridle” both of which have also been adapted for Tv so what better place to start than a visit to The Darkroom…

The Day of the Triffids – John Wyndham

“One of those books that haunts you for the rest of your life” Now, this IS a classic. I loved the 1980’s Tv series and have been meaning to get onto the novel for some time now so Twas definitely time that I did and I really enjoyed it, so much so that I’ve now started re-watching the 1980’s television series starring John Duttine. I’m also on the lookout for more Wyndham classics and he’s an author I’d highly recommend.

Horror Classic!

Groom Lake – S E England

A kindle unlimited recommendation😎👍🏻

Her occult trilogy “Father of Lies, etc” was awesome (all free with kindle unlimited) so Twas a no brainer giving this a go.

Pretty Good this, it’s another occult horror, this time a standalone novella that follows Lauren, a recently singled woman feeling her life is in crisis as she heads for a break from it all in the Welsh Marchlands and the pull of Groom Lake becomes a sub conscious necessity. What is pulling her here? And Why? Who can she trust? She soon meets a little girl called Hernia who appears to need her help, or does she? What secrets does this place hold? Will she survive to encounter the truth?
